Awake. For a while now.
Counting out callipers
that chalks the bedroom in a Blitzlicht flash.
BOOM —- shaking the earth. rolling out thickly to the north.
Then it comes.
leeward slanting rain stings on windows
rattles in gutters
I can feel the thickness of it.
Pushing down in heavy trashcan chords.
The dog snuffles and shifts in minor annoyance. Which I am grateful for.
For a long while we are both still.
Passing through it.
with a thrown switch quickness it all tapers off to slow
Haven’t heard them give up thanks since last year!
I sleep soon amongst their busy legs.
