The Bibbulmun Track is a long distance hiking trail that runs roughly 1000 kilometres from Kalamunda in the east of Perth to its southern terminus in Albany.
The trail is plotted through state forests, national parks and reserves with sleeping shelters placed around 1 days walk apart.
12 years ago I walked a 415 kilometre section of the Bibb from Pemberton to Albany with two friends, Mary and Gill.
It was a challenging, rewarding experience and our current trip is now intersecting the track at towns and highway crossings. The frequent yellow triangular Wauga or Rainbow Serpent trail markers bringing back plenty of fantastic memories.
Tonight, we are parked literally 10 centimetres from the track as it passes through the town of Walpole.
Back then as I walked up this very section of the track, I would have never believed in a million years that the ‘future me’ would be parked up in a motor home on the very same spot.
Such is life.
