Global Climate Strike.

Today Juno and I went to support the students participating in the global climate strike.

It is astounding to me that this series of global protests that will be held over the next week have arisen largely due to the activity of a 16 year old named Greta Thunberg who describes herself as a climate and environmental activist with Asperger’s. If you have not yet read about her, I recommend you do so. You could start by watching this video of Greta addressing the US congress (and remember she is 16 years old).

After watching that I don’t have much more that is worth saying….
Instead, here are the demands made by students at the Climate Strike here in Canberra and a few pictures from the event. I hope you attended or are about to attend your own local strike to support our future generations and our planet. Be a catalyst for change.

  • No new coal, oil or gas projects
  • 100 per cent renewable energy generation and exports by 2030
  • Funding for “a just transition and job creation for all fossil-fuel industry workers and communities”

Help fuel my creative mojo.
Shout me a coffee.

  1. Fantastic logical evidence succinctly delivered by a 16 year old in her second language. What more can we say?
We need to listen, we need politicians to listen AND act, for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, our nieces and nephews. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Awesome, just got home from going to the strike in Toowoomba. The kids give me some hope for the future, it’s easy to feel despairing about climate change but these kids are amazing, they are demonstrating the leadership our politicians have failed to demonstrate.
