The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is easing its COVID lockdown boarder restrictions. Whilst the areas we can freely travel are still limited, it does provide us with a loop route down to the south coast.
Kelly starts her holidays tomorrow (I still have a few shifts to work at the vaccination centre), so this coming weekend we intend to take Ripley on a road trip down the south coast. We can just squeeze our trip within the permitted boundaries (although things are in flux right now and further openings are likely).
I immediately booked a few nights at one of our go-to spots in Bermagui. After so many months, it will be SO good to see the ocean again.
Apart from a vague route plan, the rest of the trip we will do our usual modus operandi of making it up as we go along.
I’m not sure what to expect. The whole trip could be destination crazy-town as everyone else loads up their cars, caravans and 4WD and takes off to expunge the pent-up COVID claustrophobia.
I’m also not sure how the locals in some smaller towns (that might not have high vaccination rates yet) will react to all the tourists suddenly on the move.
Now everyone is mixing and on the move, COVID numbers are going to inevitably climb. Even though we are both double vaccinated, we still definitely do not want to catch COVID.
But the opportunity to finally travel again is just to precious to pass up. It’s true…. you don’t know what you’ve got till it is taken away.
We will advance cautiously, responsibly and seek places of people-sparse serenity.
That’s the plan anyhoow. I will keep you posted as things unfold along the way.
