A slice of life.

Pasta with a mix of wild mushrooms. Stirred through it all a homemade basil and roasted pine nut pesto.

Boiling water. Cool jazz. Steamed glasses.

To finish up, a thick cover of fresh Parmigiano-Reggiano and finely sliced index finger pulp.

I blame the steam. Kelly blames the paparazzi distractions.

Furthermore…two retired emergency nurses, and do you think we could find a single bandaid in the house?

Technical geeky photographical stuff:

First up, if you look closely you can see the scrunched paper towelling used to tamponade the bleeding.

I took this photo to test out my new 35mm prime lens. A prime lens has a fixed focal length or ‘point of view’ as opposed to a zoom lens which can….well, zoom in and out on the subject.

Because it has less moving parts and internal components and whatnot a prime lens is usually smaller, lighter, and produces a better image quality.

Prime lenses are not cheap. A good 35mm lens for my camera will cost around $1,500 AUD. That is a little way too steep for me right now so I settled on a ‘cheap’ product made by TTArtisan.
This lens costs around 100 bucks and has a pretty good reputation for delivering quality images despite the low price point.

I’m pretty chuffed with the way this test photo turned out.

With the money saved, I might even spring for a box of bandaids.
