Saul Leiter.

Im very excited that this coffee table book on the photography of Saul Leiter arrived today.

Im digging around trying to discover photographers who’s work inspires me.
Saul Leiter along with Vivien Maier, were first to tick that box.

Saul Leiter was an American photographer whose work (from back in the 1950’s and 60’s) deeply resonates with me.
And like Vivien, his genius was not ‘discovered’ until much later.

I don’t have a philosophy….I have a camera.

Saul Leiter

His masterful use of light and colour and contrast and composition and framing was way ahead of his time. He found beauty in the mundane. He once said: “The world is full of endless things. And there are many beautiful things. And people have a talent for not noticing it”.

Today he is emulated and evolved upon by many…. in fact I can see his influence in much of the YouTuber and Instagram photographer/influencers.

Just take a look at a slice of his work, some of these pieces are stunning…..
