Monochrome photo close up of various pieces of earth moving equipment

Moving the earth.

There is something so very aesthetically engaging about heavy industrial machinery. Don’t you think?

Testosterone1 and physics aside, there is some degree of brute beauty in these machines. And there is honesty. Unlike high-end technology, digital devices, and AI architecture, heavy machinery is blatantly upfront with its objectives and its limitations.

Treat it rough but fair and it will DO shit.
Fuck around with it and it might kill you.

This thing is going to dig a bloody big hole.
This thing is going to drill down into the bedrock.
This thing is going to pump concrete over that wall.
This thing is going to grade out the road.

Levers and hydraulics and smoko’s.

  1. I have heard that the big mining companies prefer female drives to handle their ginormous mineral-moving trucks….because they do a better job. I don’t know if that is true, but it seems about right to temper such machinery with a little feminine energy. ↩︎
