Bristol 1975.

I love the foggy grungy mood of these two photos. Presumably taken by my dad in a Main Street of Bristol UK. Can anyone add any further info/context?

The years have not been kind to this slide film, but the photographic patina seems to perfectly slot the pictures into the appropriate moment of history.

I was born in Bristol, but in 1975 I was already well ensconced in Australia.

Project Re-Xpose.
I’m re-scanning my dad’s old 35mm slides. Many have not seen light for over 30 years.

  1. @shojiwax.com I think the second photo is looking south along Union Street.

You can just see a cinema on the right of the photo. It continues to be a cinema to this day.

    1. @shojiwax.com Thanks @dan – that was annoying me. I kept thinking it was Park Street because of the hill, but it didn't match with any buildings

  2. @shojiwax.com I think the first photo is on Horsefair. It's still a shopping street and has gone through a lot of redevelopment, but those buildings are still there. You can see the fittings on Primark where the glass canopy used to be https://maps.app.goo.gl/p1dw5XdKqU69qFj86?g_st=ac #bristol

  3. The first picture looks like The Horsefair and the second one could be Union Street. Hope that helps.
