I have been doing a little reading during this trip. I wont bore you with links to the research or the titles of books (I don’t want to bore you, I want to shock you……….as in here, hold these two wires), but I will share a video at the end of this post.

Our planet is well on the way to two degrees warming by the middle of this century now. And there is a way too far from zero possibility of reaching three or four degrees.

In short, this means catastrophic failure of crops, mass migration as highly populated areas become uninhabitable, widespread destruction from fires, super severe storms, geopolitical unrest with all the badness that might bring….and on and on.

In short, our planet is on the wrong side of a precipice of collapse.

Despite this dire situation, it is still not to late to make a significant impact on this emergency. But it is almost too late, and the changes that must be made are deep and far-reaching and (unfortunately for us all) pose an existential threat to the current structures of economic and political power. Not to mention the status quo of the insatiable thirst of capitalism.

This is why the emergency is on mute.

This is why you might think all this inconvenience is going to simply get solved. This is why you might think your kids and their kids have a future. That is the narrative of civil anaesthesia that ensures the folks with the money and the power get to keep it.

Yet. Almost every day now we get to see coverage of climate-related grief. To the point where we get a little desensitised to it. And we are now well used to a political reaction of some sort to address each event instead of the concerted root response that is required.

Time is up for us. And personally I don’t see our species having the collective guts required to make the required sacrifices and changes.

I (and you) have to do something….but I don’t know what. I have no answers. Only a stupid rant.
