Monochrome photo of group of people being filmed by a news media cameraman. The film camera takes up most of the foreground.

Through the lens.

Camera: Fujifilm XT5.

There is uneasy tension in this photo. The cameraman appears to be filming a group of people who are looking uncomfortable being filmed, distrustful, suspicious. It could be a protest. Or some sort of angry gathering.

But things are never as they apprear.

The photo was taken at Easter (notice the bunny ears?). It was a happy time. A time of food and celebration. Everybody in this frame was enjoying themselves. Even the cameraman.

Yet, the lens offers up a different story. Except…not really. The photo has captured that very instant exactly as it was. Then our own interpretation takes over… overlaying opinions, prejudices, misconceptions, projections. Our brain extracts a construct from the pixelated moment and stretches it out into a narrative.

Such is life.
