Packing for the impending Japan trip.
Trying to pack minimalist.
Trying to pack ultra light.
Trying to pack uber-sensibly.
That combination truffle grater and garlic press?
Actually, I might need that.

I will be taking my Fujifilm XT5. It’s big and heavy and has big-ass chunky analogue dials. To be honest I could probably get just as good photos with my iPhone 12. Not because the camera sucks (it is awesome) but because its user suffers from artistic compunction.
No matter, for me it’s all about the hands-on, ontologically retro vibe of using this camera.

Gachapon is a thing.
An almost infinite variety of small plastic collectable ‘toys’ (think Kinder surprise on steroids) that are dispensed from vending machines. (Here you go..some video). The word Gachapon supposedly comes from the sound of the machine handle being cracked ….the “Gacha-gacha” and when the ball drops out from the machine it makes a “Pon” sound.
Gachapon represents a whole lot of things I hate in this world, like mindless consumerism and the generation of mountains of plastic waste, and stupid impulse purchases that will inevitably end up as land fill.
Stand by….and just watch me become addicted to collecting Gachapon.
I am a whore to hypocrisy.

The only two electronic devices I will be taking (apart from my camera) will be an iPad mini and some AirPods. Im even leaving my iPhone at home. No laptop. No Kindle. No radio controlled monster truck. Nothing. Time will tell if this was a good idea.
But every square centimetre saved is more room to bring back my Gachapon haul……Goals.

I hate long flights.
On a flight back from the US many years back, I made it to about the 10 hour mark….then, as I was standing in the isle waiting to use the toilet, I was overwhelmed with this compulsion to open the side door, get away from the sardines, and go out to stretch my legs. I mean the door, it was right there. Just lift that handle, and turn. A few seconds.
Then, a couple of laps around the wings. Maybe some stretching. Some fresh air. Solitude.
I have suggested to Kelly that we book on a Boeing, so that worst case scenario, I could blame structural integrity for any out-of-plane activities.
