100% human. But endangered.

This website is powered by 100% human content and creativity.

We are at the precipice of an exponential decline in authentic human flourishing within the online space. The inter-net is no longer a net of interconnected nodes, but a pyramid of separate blocks.

This whole place is now carved up by major platforms such as TikTok, Reddit, and YouTube who want to capture you in their monetised ecosystems, addicted to endless scrolling through AI generated slop and artificial (low quality) repositories of knowledge. Their sole (without soul) goal is to stimulate the emotive parts of your brain in order to hold your sustained attention and soak up their ads.

Meanwhile… real human creators, knowledge holders and wisdom keepers are less and less motivated (or incentivised) to produce online content outside of these walled platforms. And they are disenfranchised and dismayed to work to the algorithms within them.

People like myself who use the internet as a space to connect and create, yet who are averse to lining the pockets of the algorithm masters, are noticing a slow, steady decline in traffic.

The truth is, no one is looking to discover bespoke, off-piste individual content anymore.

Search engines and social media platforms don’t want to acknowledge independent creators (let alone promote them) for that very reason.
There are no commons…and the landowners want to keep it that way.

We are ambling with an ignorant abandon towards a world where the people who control these powerful silos will control our trans-personal narratives. Critical thinking will be proprietary. Connectivity will be curated. Knowledge will be generated (not discovered). Creativity will be by-appointment only.

And that is terrifying.

But. There are ways that you can help disassemble these controlling structures and re-imagine the internet as an ecosystem that is wild and free. And human.

Pro tip: avoid engaging with any AI generated content that you can identify (be particularly vigilant for it in search engine results) and anyone who has the word influencer in their bio.

Seek out independent creators that are not simply pushing out click-bait content to feed the algorithm.
Get off scrolling the big platforms and instead, make the effort to try to discover people producing quality work.

Support and acknowledge authentic (ie real human) artists, teachers, researchers, craftspeople, culture disruptors, activists, commentators, journalists, writers, musicians, curators, and others who are using the internet to reach out and share their muse.

Pro tip: if you want to dive deeper into these ideas, this video has a pretty good discussion of where we are headed.

That support can be monetary but even more important is to share work that you appreciate and to give feedback (by liking or commenting or even emailing them). This is the fuel that keeps the web alive.

Don’t be a consumer of slop, be a participant in human growth and connection.
