The Dove, the Phoenix, or the Dodo.

Our planet is in real trouble.

I was out for dinner with some friends the other night and the discussion turned to the climate.

I mostly kept my thoughts to myself and tried to remain open to other people’s opinions, but when I was pressed, I said that I don’t really talk about it much anymore because it inevitably takes the conversation to a dark (and unhelpful) place. Especially for those with kids.

And then, inevitably, the conversation went to a dark (and unhelpful) place.

So, after the arguments…. and a long silence grasping for alternate conversations, we ordered desert. Double chocolate whatevers.

On today’s desert menu we have three birds:

The Dove. Society will, as a result of either a sudden wake-up to its inherent response-ability or by the cold hard squeeze of necessity, profoundly transform itself in ecologically sustainable and sentience-nourishing directions that we cannot envision at this point. The world will be a better place on the other side (whatever that means).

The Phoenix: There will be a collapse of mainstream societies globally.
War. Famine. Mass migrations. Extinctions. All the badness.
This will be followed by a successor civilisation(s) that may or may not learn from our errors.

The Dodo. Humans will go extinct. We may or may not take everything else with us.
