Monochrome photo of light patternations on the surface of water.

Light waves.

Another experiment with capturing the everyday.

These sorts of water light patternations are so familiar are they not? I bet you can remember many occasions when you noticed such reflected things…on a ceiling, on some foliage, along a riverbank…and I also bet each of these memories is a fond one.

Immediately jumping to mind for me is lying on the tiled edge of the local public swimming pool, watching the patterns on the concrete bottom. I can still smell the mix of chlorine and wet concrete as I lie belly down with my chin on my hands, the last gobbed remainder of a Choo-Choo bar1 between my teeth, shivering in the sun and soaking up the school holidays.

  1. The Choo Choo Bar was an Australian liquorice-toffee flavoured confectionery that was super delicious and would rip the fillings right out of your teeth if you had any. I am not sure if they still make them. ↩︎
