This blog is slowly dying. But I am plodding.

It is true. My stats don’t lie.

Whilst I seem to have a small core group of regular readers and followers (exceptionally groovy people, each and every one), the number of views on this site is slowly but inexorably waning.

Additionally, I have not had a single new subscriber in months (see the bottom of this post to rectify that!)

I think this is due to two factors:

  1. I am not active on the mainstream social media platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram etc. And that is where most people go to access the interwebs1.
  2. Search engines such as Google are now placing AI generated information at the top of their result pages. (And future transition seems to be one of overwhelming AI entanglement).
    Followed by sponsored results.
Any hope of discovering independently produced content is slim to nix.

So. The independent web (or indieweb) is becoming increasingly isolated from exposure to any potential followers pressuring them to:

  1. join non-independant for-profit walled hubs such as Substack or Medium.
  2. Rely on the algorithms of the truly fucked up social media behemoths (I’m looking at you Facebook & X).

The third alternative, is to keep plodding on for no other reason than this:

“Everything that needs to be said has already been said. But since nobody was listening, it needs to be said again.”

Unknown.

This third alternative is to value one’s own creative muse and to realise that the universe has conspired to drive you to voice that creativity so that it holds some hidden pockets of magick amidst the slop and dross.

And to encourage others to do the same.

  1. I am very active on a couple of alternate social media platforms such as Mastodon and Pixelfed. ↩︎

  1. You need some Pauline bots. I’ll ring Indonesia and get on to it. You might have to die your fine crop of hair bright orange. 🙂

Thanks for sharing/updating. I’m grateful for your input, particularly your philosophical/scientific musings & the spirit (& humour) with which your offer them. 🙏
