At first it was cute. A little girl holding her arms wide to feed the pigeons. I moved in anticipating that a cool photo might present. I wanted to frame the birds in motion from behind the girl.
But things escalated quickly into a frenzied grey and white mass of greedy flapping feathers. It was suddenly obnoxiously noisy…and smelly.
Someone had walked up at that moment and dumped a large pile of birdseed or bread or something on the ground. The mother load.
For a moment I was engulfed in motion as a maelstrom of birds was sucked into the feast.
The girl fled to her mum, and I stole one shot before deciding the girl had made the right call.
Much later I would discover that the birds had taken their own artistic shots all over my hat.
I am not fond of pigeons.
