Embellish.

Since mankind first began using tools, there has been an artistic imperative to embellish everyday items.

From pots to weapons to steam engines to handkerchiefs.
From plain sight to hidden detail.
From the mundane to the numinous.
From the simple to the sublime.

Embellish: etymology from around the mid 14th century…. “to render beautiful,” from Old French embelliss-, stem of embellir “make beautiful, ornament,”1

Embellishing brings attention to the mundane, collapsing the ordinary to reveal something deeper than the sum of the parts.

I have two questions.

  1. does the natural world embellish its objects?
  2. how do you embellish your world?

One response to “Embellish.”

  1. The natural world is such an embellished that it must lavish detail upon detail in myriad of ways ~ and never exactly the same way twice.

I embellish my world with every tone, word, gesture, poem, essay, song, truth of which I am able. Though I am homeless and own only one outfit of clothing, I still get compliments on it.
