In case you were wondering, the practice of head shrinking (known as tsantsa) originated amongst the Jivaroan Indians of the Amazonian rainforest. It was believed that shrinking the head of a slain enemy would allow an individual to both acquire the dead persons soul and protect them against suffering the same fate.

The heads were worn around the waist and held great spiritual and symbolic significance. Tsantsa is no longer practiced.

Once can only imagine what the Jivaroans would have thought of future technologically advanced civilisations replicating them in plastic and hanging them from rearview mirrors of classic cars.
