Monochrome photo of a seagull on one leg standing on a mooring pole. In the background is a large lake.

Autumn loop.

Crisp clear Autumn days are the best for riding.
Took the eBike out for a roll around the lake. Stopping here and there to take a few photos, sit and listen, watch the clouds….and then a longer pause at the Australian National University where I stumbled upon a mixed team Ultimate Frisbee tournament. Screw pickle-ball, this is the sport I want to age into. So much fun.

Back on the bike. Out past the site of the now long-gone Royal Canberra Hospital, past the ghost of the nurses’ residence where I spent a large chunk of my professional life, onwards over the bridge for lunch at the National Library. Then a covert scoot up and around Parliament House, thence on to Manuka to check out my favourite bookshop (did not buy anything) and a final dirt track assault (in Boost mode ’cause my legs aren’t as young as they used to be) over Davidson Hill…. before a downward coast back home.

  1. sounds like a great day indeed Ian. I remember joyfully commuting & mtn biking around Canberra for 10 years while I was there.
I’m wondering if you received my lengthy email several weeks ago? Spooky ED clinical story & a recent experience of mine.
if you didn’t perhaps advise me of correct email?
