Monochrome photo of a felled tree stump

Wood trauma.

A large stand of local trees has been cut down. A government sign advises that they have been thinned so that replanting and regrowth can occur.

As I walk through it, the feeling is more of a traumatic cull. Random chainsaw cuts and witness marks leave some stumps as amateur totem poles.

It is just an adjustment, I know.

The trees will recover, and perhaps be better for the space and light.

Yet as I take my photos amongst the carnage the feeling of disrespect will not shake off.
